Join LEAF and Trees for Life as we celebrate National Forest Week by planting native trees and shrubs at Fallingbrook Park. Get your hands dirty and help us improve Whitby’s urban forest! All ages welcome.   

Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. 

Planting event will take place from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. 

Please wear: 

• Closed-toed shoes or boots – no sandals, please! 

• Gardening gloves, if you have them (we will have extras)  

• Appropriate clothing – the event runs rain or shine 

All LEAF events count toward secondary school volunteer hour requirements.

Join as the Rotary Club of Uxbridge and plant over 800 native trees and shrubs to create the Steve Snoddon Mini Forest along Ewen Trail

No experience necessary and all ages are welcome!

What is a Mini Forest?
A mini forest is a densely planted community of native trees and plants in a small area the size of a tennis court. Mini forests grow faster, sequester more carbon, and promote more biodiversity than conventionally planted urban trees.

Thanks to a group of community volunteers, the site was prepared in June 2026 by laying down cardboard, spreading compost and mulch. These materials have been settling over the last few months, creating a nutrient-rich site for the trees and shrubs to be planted on October 24, 2026.

Steve Snoddon was a Past President of the Rotary Club of Uxbridge and a visionary community leader. He spearheaded the creation of the Uxbridge Rotary Skate Park and the Optimist Pump Track, and volunteered countless hours with the Durham Mountain Bike Association and Uxbridge Trails Committee. In honour of his contributions to Uxbridge, this mini forest id dedicated to Steve.

Note: This is a physical activity with some jobs that may require lifting materials up to 10kg - please be aware of your limitations.

What to wear and bring:

• Protective work gloves

• Closed-toe shoes or boots

• Reusable water bottle

• Clothes appropriate for the weather

• Sunscreen and mosquito repellent (if necessary)

• Epi-pen (for those with severe food, insect, or environmental allergies)

Shovels and light refreshments will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you'd like.
