Maple Leaf Trail Tree Planting - Heber Down Conservation Area

  • Canadian Trees for Life 7856 Fifth Line South Milton, ON, L9T 2X8 Canada (map)

Join Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority as we plant hundreds of trees along the Maple Leaf Trail at Heber Down Conservation Area! Registration required.

We will be planting the naturalized, un-mown area inside of the Maple Leaf Trail loop with a goal to plant mid- to late-successional species to promote natural succession toward tolerant mixed-wood forest from the early pioneer stage that the area is currently in.

The site lies on the beach of the post-glacial Lake Iroquois Shoreline, and has been growing in naturally with shoreline-associated, early successional species such as Willows and poplars including Cottonwood and Bebb's Willow. The area had been in agricultural use for many decades before CLOCA's procurement and management. CLOCA has since installed a parking lot, washrooms, the Maple Leaf Trail and day-use areas, mowed in the shape of a Maple Leaf to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday in 2017.
