Ontario Regiment Museum Arboretum

Today, we hosted a ground breaking ceremony at the Ontario Regiment Museum, planting the first of 700 trees that will reside at this site.

We were honoured to be joined by Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter, MP Colin Carrie, MPP Jennifer French, Ward 1 Councilor John Neal, Ward 2 Councilor Jane Hurst, Ward 3 Councilor HCol Bob Chapman, Ward 3 Councilor Bradley Marks, Ward 4 Councilor Rick Kerr, Ward 5 Councilor John Gray and Chair of the Regional Municipality of Durham John Henry. We were also joined by members of the Ontario Regiment RCAC, 420 Wing and both RCL Br 637 and 112.

The official planting of the Ontario Regiment Museum will take place in two-phases starting this month and ending in the Spring of 2022.

UPDATE:

On November 10th, we prepared the site with compost the ensure the soil had plenty of nutrients to support the addition of the new trees.

The week of November 25th, we planted 450 of the 700 trees that will be part of this memorial grove. Thanks to the previously laid compost, these trees will have lots of nutrients to get them through the winter.

The remaining 250 trees will be planted in the Spring.

Stay tuned! We’re hopeful that we’ll be able to invite our supporters to help with the Spring planting. If you’re interested in helping (COVID restrictions at the time of the planting will determine feasibility), please register here and we’ll be sure to reach out if public support is permitted.
