Trees for Life and 407 ETR Plant 30,000 Trees Along the Highway in 2025
Trees for Life was thrilled to once again join forces with 407 ETR to continue tree planting efforts along Highway 407 ETR. Over the last two years, Trees for Life has helped 407 ETR plant 50,000 native trees along the highway.
407 ETR has been on a journey to reduce its environmental footprint. It launched the Highway 407 ETR Biodiversity Project in July 2022 to develop a healthy, ecologically sustainable, and biodiverse landscape running through the heart of the Greater Toronto Area. The project goals include eradicating invasive plant species and increasing the number of native plants – including trees – growing within and adjacent to Highway 407 ETR’s 108 km corridor.
In 2023, 407 ETR planted 10,000 trees as part of the project. In 2024, Trees for Life helped double 407 ETR’s efforts by contributing 10,000 additional trees, raising the total number planted to 20,000. This year, tree planting efforts continued to grow, and with the support of Trees for Life and our contribution of 20,000 trees, 407 ETR planted 30,000 native species along the corridor.
In addition to supporting the biodiversity along Highway 407 ETR, the trees will serve as a tribute to the Trees for Life, Trees for Heroes feature project. First responders, including fire services, police, and paramedics across the GTA rely on Highway 407 ETR to help them get to emergencies quickly. Recognizing their important role, all trees contributed by Trees for Life since 2023 have been dedicated to the first responders of Southern Ontario and the GTA. We look forward to watching these trees flourish for years to come.
