This month, we will Get to Know our native Tulip tree.

Scientific name: Liriondendron tulipifera

Tulip tree is a large, fast-growing tree which can reach a mature height of 35 metres.

Where is Grows:

Tulip trees grow in only a few areas of Southern Ontario — along the south shore of Lake Huron, along the north shore of Lake Erie and in the Niagara Peninsula.

Fact: Blooms in spring.  Tulip trees begin flowering after they are 15 years old.  Flowers are yellow/orange, resembling a tulip..

Professional Tip: Tulips require a lot of moisture during summer.
